she is neglecting her health.
This morning, I peed burnt orange colored pee. Mr. PhizzleDizzle was brushing his teeth, and told me to drink more water. Usually, I drink lots and lots of water every day, but lately I am too engrossed in this work I have for a very big paper deadline to get up to get water.
Additionally, it is noon and I have not eaten anything yet today. And I've only had half a glass of water. Because I woke up and came straight to my trusty computer to check on my work and I have been sitting on the couch ever since.
Now that it is noon, the stomach is beginning to rumble and complain. Methinks I ought to maybe get up, drink some water, and add some nutrition to my body in order to ensure strength to continue!
Carry on.

Ugh. I know how you feel. I've been getting ~5 sleep/night, just coffee for breakfast, and eating crap from the lab's leftover Halloween candy repository for lunch. Home at stupidly late, where wonderful BH has prepared my only nutritious meal of the day.
I feel like crap.
Take care of you - you'll thank yourself for it later.
Dude... not good. Like you say it is most probably dehydration, but if it happens again after drinking lots of water, get checked out - my friend once had a kidney infection and had no other symptoms until she peed blood. (When I had my own kidney infection I felt sicker than I've ever been before, well before I had any other symptoms, so everyone is different)
AA: does a handful of triscuits count as sustenance? i hope so.
and speaking of advisors, mine is currently 26 minutes late for our phone meeting. wooohoo!
Cath: that is scary! though I have also peed blood before, and I felt like dying at the time. i think in this case it's just dehydration but i very much appreciate your concern!
Ha. Husband, the Doctor, drinks like 4 gallons of water a day, pees like a racehorse, and it is always clear. Disgruntled Julie, the seemingly-very-far-away-from-becoming a Doctor, is generally far too busy in the lab to be bothered to walk outside the lab where she is permitted to drink water, and thus is in a general state of dehydration, pees just twice a day, and it is definitely not clear.
Husband always yells. But until health and safety lifts the ban and lets me drink in the lab... it's far too much effort to walk down the hall for a glass of water.
@ Julie - An excellent foil for the EH&S people:
Translucent non-colored non-BPA-leaching Nalgene bottle (preferably wide-mouth) with screw top removed and your name on it so no one else "borrows" it store anything nasty.
Sterile 10mL pipet with pointy end and cotton plug removed.
Fill with H2O from clean source (drinking fountain, not lab sink).
Insert amended pipet, use as straw.
Leave wherever you like in the lab, they'll never even see it.
If you're really brave you can also include ice from lab ice machine (as does clinically insane post-doc in my lab), but I wouldn't recommended it.
