Shitty Shitty Fuck Fuck

I just got rejected from another job.

I take each of these personally, I can't help it. I feel worthless, stupid, impostor-ish, and I don't actually know how to do anything useful. Shit. I'll never find a fucking job.

Plus, Mr. Phizz's bike got stolen last night.

That totally sucks, but it's not because you're worthless or anything of the sort! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Whoa, what a shitty day.

I applied for like 60 jobs when I was looking for this one, got 2 interviews and 1 offer.

It's a numbers game and you only need one offer, hang in there. :)

It's a numbers game and you only need one offer, hang in there. :)Yep. I submitted about 70 applications for tenure-track positions, got about a half dozen interviews, and received three offers.

I think you also have to remember that there are just no jobs right now, period. It has nothing to do with YOU or your worthi-ness, but if the jobs aren't there... everyone is getting rejected. My lab is interviewing for an upper-level post-doc position, and within 24 hours of posting the job, for one person, there were over 500 applications submitted. Within the first 24 hours. People are desperate.

Just keep trying. Good luck!! :)

Sorry to hear. With the risk of sounding trite... it is not you, it is someone else.

That meaning that you never know what you are up against. Maybe people were just putting the ad out because they had to... but really they already had one in mind for the job.

That said, when I applied for jobs last summer I sent 37 applications, got one phone interview (and a real one, got 2nd for that position) and half of the applications did not even get a "thanks but no thanks" back....

hang in there and remember that you are good and those negative thoughts will et you nowhere good.

...I see the irony that I try to cheer you up ;)

take it the right way though! It is going to pay off. give it time!

and too bad about the bike. that sucks!

Both the job and bike situations suck ass. The fucking dumbfucks that rejected you don't know that they've missed out on all the amazing things that Teh Phizzle would have brought to the position. Fuck 'em. Something better will come along.

Phizzle - So sorry you didn't get the job offer. I don't think you suck or are worthless.

what a sucky day, but I'll chime in with the others... definitely not you. Hope things pick up!

Balls.

But don't worry too much about the rejection- rejection is a part of life. You know, for every three rejections I get, I just think- I'm due for a win! My chances are even better!! It's all probability, and persistence is the name of the game.

It is not you though. NONE of the people I know IRL that are on the market now have any offers either.

Booooo. That sucks. Please try to remember that you are teh awesome and it's the economy that sucks.

I hate to say it, but it definitely makes me feel better to know it's the economy...

EB, your anecdote perked me up considerably, not because I enjoy knowing about other people's desperation, but just that...well, it helps me realize it's not because I totally and utterly suck.

Also, hearing the proportions of attempts:offers also helps (thanks PPD, CPP, chall), it makes me realize I need to have more apps out there and to just not take it personally. The idea that I should be able to get any job I apply for is just naive and stupid and should be done away with forthwith.

CE - I'm due for an acceptance I think! Thanks for the attitude shift.

I will find something. Eventually. Somewhere. That I like. I hope. Thanks all. Your comments helped me out of a funk.

That really sucks but I know how your feeling. If you want I could put a good word in for you somehwhere. Anywhere really because it will have no impact since noone knows who I am. :-)

Heh, thanks Jaz, I appreciate the thought :).
